Prajna Vihar School
“Abode of Wisdom”
An inter-religious school in Bodhgaya educating around 650 children from the poorest families - the project BDA has supported the longest.
Four projects in and around Bodhgaya - each meeting a different need, all built on the belief that education changes everything.
The longest program we have supported is the development, running and expansion of the Prajna Vihar School, which provides education for children of the very poor who would otherwise receive no schooling at all.
From late 2014 we began supporting other worthwhile projects in and around Bodhgaya. Jeevan Deep offers education and health services to low-caste communities - we fund its health care service. The Pragati Sewing Centre teaches marginalised tribal women the skills to earn an income, run by the Dwyer Foundation. And from 2022 we have supported the Gyanjyoty Trust, whose academy provides free, accessible education to children from the poorest outlying villages.
Over the years we have also supported programs such as Mahisi Gyanodaya Abhiyan (Campaign for Awakening Wisdom) and Nari Jagran Manch - a life-skills, literacy and micro-credit program for low-caste women and girls.
All work done for the BDA is voluntary, with administrative costs donated by people on the Australian management committee. Because of this, every dollar donated goes to the projects themselves.

“Lamp of Life”
Health care, clean-water wells and vocational training for low-caste rural communities in and around Bodhgaya.
“Progress”
Sewing and tailoring skills that give marginalised tribal women a way to earn an income and build independence.
“Light of Knowledge”
Free education for 223 children from outlying villages who would otherwise work in the fields instead of going to school.
Because the BDA is run entirely by volunteers who cover their own costs, 100% of your donation goes directly to the children, families and women in our projects.
