A history in milestones
From a single tent to a school of 650 children - three decades of patient, community-led growth.
- 1990
Prajna Vihar School - the “Abode of Wisdom” - opens its doors in Bodhgaya, Bihar.
- 1993
The Bodhgaya Development Association begins, supporting basic education for underprivileged children from a single tent.
- 2001
The BDA is formally incorporated as a voluntary association in Australia.
- 2007
Letter-writing and intercultural connection projects begin between Australian supporters and the school.
- 2015
The school is recognised for serving around 600 children from low-income families.
- 2018
Enrolment reaches roughly 650 students across two brick buildings, taught by sixteen staff.
- 2020
The BDA gains Australian Registered Charity status and helps families through the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Today
Around US$90 a year educates one child - and support is needed more than ever.
