The Prajna Vihar School (literally “Abode of Wisdom”) is an inter-religious school for children from poor backgrounds in Bodhgaya, Bihar, India. It keeps Christian, Muslim and Hindu teachers, and welcomes students from all of these traditions as well as Buddhists.
The school started in 1990 and currently has around 650 students. Instruction is in Hindi, and alongside the normal curriculum - plus Ethics and Dance - students are encouraged to see the richness in each of the different religious traditions. The school is managed by a not-for-profit society, the Prajna Vihar Inter-religious Education Society (PVIES).
Why your support matters
The school relies primarily on donations from the West, and increased support is very much needed. It costs approximately US$90 per student per year to provide a holistic, good-quality education - covering the salaries of the principal and fourteen teachers, as well as books, uniforms and materials.
